The gentleman who made are tea is gracious and helpful. A bit of history about the Japanese Internment is a visual history here. Not a lot but it opens you eyes to the extent of the injustice.

Cool history. Worth stopping by, though I am only suggesting the tea house, the hotel is in rough shape and in a bad area.

Great teas and allot of history. I've heard about this place but had never had the time to go in. We were wandering the area looking for a place to eat dinner as we approached the store front the owner was sitting out front and welcomed us in to look at the history and photos in the store, with no obligation to buy. This place has photos of old Seattle circa WWII along with a glass window which looks into the basement where trunks and items left by Japanese Americans are still stored from their departure to the internment camps. Definitely a place to go for some great history. The tea shop sells excellent teas I enjoyed a nicely brewed Jasmine green while my companion enjoyed a non-caffeinated chai that was naturally sweet with hints of vanilla and spice. Definitely coming back for more history and to try the food in the future.
